Dad was 32, mum was 30.

So, I'm 2 years older than my dad was when I was born(last of 3), and so far, no kids*.

Unless their mum was a total roaster, and just didn't tell me. I can't really rule that one out

Different era, marriages were earlier, kids were earlier. The age difference wasn't even a consideration at the time, he had graduated from College and was an Engineer for Boeing, which meant he could provide for a family. She was a rural girl who was smitten with him. Nothing novel there, the same story has played out with minor variations worldwide for centuries.

How did they even meet?

I'm calling arranged marriage/kidnapping with a side of Stockholm syndrome and/or statutory raep.

Your snark aside, he was working on Minuteman missile silos in the area, but I'm not certain how they actually met. It was all on the level as far as the families were concerned apparently, but I wasn't around for the details and I've never asked. It didn't last long (about 2 years) and I didn't meet my dad until I was in my mid-20's. He's a good guy and we've got a decent relationship, my mom never spoke ill of him or discouraged me from looking for him when I got older, which probably kept me from being bitter toward him.

It wasn't nearly as "Game of Thrones" as you imply...

Between my family and my wife's family, we could write true stories that would make a Lannister blush, but that's not one of them. Everybody has skeletons.

I suspect that's more true of most families than we care to admit.
