The Cure invented good music by The Cure, shit music by The Cure, and sort of OK music by The Cure.

I'm not pausing Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories for goddamn Starmarket.

You'd better get some perspective, duderino. Starmarket is the best band the scene left behind. I rather dislike that everything went to cri-boi whiney vocals.

EDIT:

I'll give you $5 if you can dislike this song.

actually by the time Friday im in love was released th DC emo thing had already happened, but I think early cure records are undeniably an important influence on emo, as they are on basically any "alternative rock" music.

The Cure are probably one of the most distinctive influences of emo but I wouldn't say they specifically invented it

Makes you wonder how generally good bands like the Cure managed to influence trash like MCR
I have nothing important to say

You ever had a bad cook try and recreate a really nice meal you had in a restaurant?

Inspired by does not mean as good as.

the cure is def. post-punk/gothic/dark wave

listen to albums like disintegration, very dark/melancholy

huge The Cure fan btw

they're more alt.rock than emo.

emo is like capn' jazz, jawbreaker, stuff like that.

it's more melodic (go figure)

^ I've just realised if you say Simple Plan's 2011 effort "Get Your Heart On!" really fast in a Southern American accent, it sounds gross. . .like sexual gross!

i sleep to emo and i even i don't care if people leave out 80s shit and screamo when they're talking about emo.

emotional

Bowie was more glittery and colorful and shit.

He looked like a happy wood elf or something.

Or a sprite of some sort
