I have a guitar I'm looking to buy from a friend. It's a Legacy G&L guitar.

However, every image I've seen of the guitar online has "USA" under Legacy on the headstock but mine has "MADE IN U.S.A."

Also, the back of the headstock - where the serial would be - has been scratched off.

Does anyone know enough about these guitars to know if mine is a fake?

IMO, the "MADE IN U.S.A" probably doesn't mean anything.
That just means it could have been made in a different year than the ones you've seen.
However, the serial number being scratched out sounds like it could possibly have been stolen at some point.
Not saying your friend is a thief, but somewhere along the history of "ownership" of the guitar, someone may have acquired it by stealing it.
To me that is a HUGE RED FLAG and I personally would avoid it.
