Your Final Moments

What have you done?
Chosen to step into that abyss
The final cut to your life line
Your ending
Said nothing's left
Fatalistic preoccupation
The solution
Is haunting

No time for the final rites

This cut isn't as clean
As you wanted
Why
Did you not know the strings
Coming from our hearts
Will never sever
Our affections
We never know
Your personal eulogy in
Your final moments
Post-mortem we're pleading
You're gone

What have you done?
Ashes are smoldering remains
No way to cross the bridge
The other side
Permanency
Your acts made clear
This void
Isn't fleeting

No time for the final rites

This cut isn't as clean
As you wanted
Why
Did you not know the strings
Coming from our hearts
Will never sever
Our affections
We never know
Your personal eulogy in
Your final moments
Post-mortem we're pleading
You're gone

No time for the final rites
No time for the final rites
No time for the final rites

This cut isn't as clean
As you wanted
Why
Did you not know the strings
Coming from our hearts
Will never sever
Our affections
We never know
Your personal eulogy in
Your final moments
Post-mortem we're pleading
You're gone

This cut isn't as clean
As you wanted
Why
Did you not know the strings
Coming from our hearts
Will never sever
Our affections
We never know
Your personal eulogy in
Your final moments
Post-mortem we're pleading
You're gone

Presume it's death metal from the lyrics?

Not my genre but lyrics are well written imo

Personally I'd change this as it sounds cliched:
"Did you not know the strings
Coming from our hearts
Will never sever
Our affections "

Not sure if this is normal for the type of music but there's way too many death references (ashes, post mortem, void etc etc) and it comes across like 6th form angst. But that might be normal for all I know

It's about someone trying to sort things out in the wake of a loved ones suicide and feeling helpless now that the act has already happened. With a suicide, it seems to be an abrupt end with a lot of loose ends that are left in limbo, and that feeling of helplessness and loss at processing the event.

I certainly wonder what went on with one friend who hung himself years ago. Not a super close, but a lack of closure is there.

I wrote it with a deathcore style in mind, even though affection doesn't seem to necessarily jive with that style.
