I've had my Baja Telecaster for a couple months now, and on the bass saddle as early as a couple of weeks after I bought it I noticed an oval of lighter-coloured brass on the top of the saddle between the strings. More recently, I'm starting to see this on the middle saddle, as well.

The same effect can be seen on the bass saddle in this image, though I imagine anyone who's owned a brass-saddled Tele knows what I mean.

I assume this is from palm muting, but is it any cause for concern? Does it mean I should be cleaning the saddles after use or anything to that effect? Or is it just what a brass saddle looks like when it's being used?

He shoots, he scores.

The wear is on the side of the guitar that gets more contact with the meat of your picking hand, so it only makes sense that it's on the bass side. Really nothing to worry about at all.

my baja's saddles have got super-tarnished and been cleaned up only to get tarnished again several times. It doesn't have any adverse effect on anything, it just looks untidy.

Clean them with brasso or something every once in awhile.

Worry instead about why some of your strings are laying on setscrews.

The picture isn't of my guitar but I suspect if you'd ever tried to set string spacing on brass barrels you'd understand.
