ugh. its me again. i know.

anyways, i am considering looking for a seven stringer. the problem is that i have no faking idea what i want.

i am partial to ibanez and jackson

USED ONLY.

$1000 tops, most likely purchased from reverb.com

i am not even sure i want a trem, but if i get one with a trem, i want it to be a good one. i realize that my budget isn't exactly helping things.

also, i don't like schecter or LTD. they haven't ever really worked out for me (and yes i have owned two schecters and three LTD's.

i am also not sure if i want active or passive . most of my guitars are passive (i have like 23 electrics at this moment, only one with active pickups (just sold the other that was a charvel). i am not against active pickups, i actually am quite fond of them, its just that most guitars i go for have passive (Ibanez Prestige , Gibsons, etc.)

thin neck is good. maybe fatter than a wizard, but thinner than a jackson. however either brands normal would be fine.

i would prefer a trem, but it would have to be a good trem, BUT i wouldn't want to be spending a lot more money for a trem (meaning a good one).

this doesn't look bad, but i don't know a whole lot about it.

https://reverb.com/item/1313607-jackson-soloist-7-7-string-electric-guitar-quicksilver

this doesn't look bad either, but its more expensive

https://reverb.com/item/266578-jackson-slatxmg3-7-soloist-7-string-black-electric-guitar

pricer again, more ambiguity though.

https://reverb.com/item/868991-jackson-slatxmgq-7-soloist-7-string-trans-white

this looks more enticing.

https://reverb.com/item/967347-ibanez-rg1527-prestige-2009-7-string-w-lungren-m7-s-pickups-and-case

this would likely be my pick.

https://reverb.com/item/1078738-ibanez-rgd2127z-prestige-7-string-invisible-shadow-with-upgrades

what are your opinions on those models? i like both jackson and ibanez, but i think ibanez is the greater preference.

as i stated, no schecter at all. if i can find a nice ESP that fancies my likeing, i would go for that (not LTD).

i am hopefully going to make it to GC in a few days.

i will likely pick up and amp first, so this is preliminary research at the time.

thanks,

I'm not familiar with 7's but of those, I like the 1527. I also found another one on Reverb.

two more questions:

1. are the trems on the ibanez 1527 and 2127 the same?
2. how are passive pickups in the lower tunings compared to active?

i think i like the lines better on the 1527 though.

went to GC tonight in search for seven stringers. it was a total waste of time. they had three. a EBMM JP7 (not in budget for me) then they had a $200 jackson that was just a piece of junk (at that price, that is almost expected). the last one was a schecter kieth merrow for a grand, also a disappointment. it wasn't terrible, but i woudn't ever buy it. dodgy pot and switch, bad fretwork, but it looked fine cosmetically. disappointed.

so far it is looking to be an ibanez prestige or a comparable jackson. unless i can find an EBMM near that price.

pass on carvin. they make nice stuff, but i tend to stay within my brands. and plus for the price, the jcraft prestiges are within a few bucks of carvin. some cheaper some a few bucks more. i would just rather stay with ibanez. (or jackson if i can find the right one).

i would take this: over the carvins for not much more cash: https://reverb.com/item/1078738-ibanez-rgd2127z-prestige-7-string-invisible-shadow-with-upgrades

some people have had problems in the past with maintaining tuning/intonation on the RGDs. i remember the dude in periphery mentioning they were basically worthless as backups for touring cause they needed a full set-up every night

Seeing as how you are used to the prestige line Ibby's, look into the RG 7620. Like danny mentioned, the 1527 is great. I used to have one with a maple board, beautiful guitar I just didn't use it enough to keep it.

You can get the 2127 with the ibby fixed bridge. The 2127 is a 26.5" scale and I think the 1527 is 25.5".

I own a 2127 and really rate the quality etc. No issues with it holding tune what's over (unless we count my ability to play a tune )

yes, i have bought four ibanez prestige used and i love them. i also paid inbeween $380-$620
for each one. i like them a lot. they have had no issues and get used a lot.

carvin is fine, but i am not interested in them for this guitar. and yes, i have played a few.

i just think i will stick to ibanez because i have always been happy with them.

Nothing wrong with brand or even MODEL loyalty, as long as they make you happy. I have a buddy with about 15 guitars. All Fender Strats.
