Most of the time you're just sitting down.

Because you're often surrounded by people, and people are shite.

Maybe you're just processing a lot of information? Or maybe it's because you're sitting so much. Kinda like how if you spend all day in one place, doing nothing, you'll feel like crap.

I always get drowsy, wouldn't say I am tired though.

Isnt tiring for me, really. I like it. My missus on the other hand is always falling asleep after a while

We had a 21 hour day/journey with 3 flights a couple of weeks ago and I liked it, she was basically a zombie come hour 10-12.

Got another 2am - 9pm travel day (and 11am - 5:30am on the return leg) coming up at the start of Jan

I had a 34 hour trip to Manila from El Paso. Damn that was miserable. When I got to the hotel room I passed out and didn't wake up for 2 days.

God IKTF. I used to fall asleep on the bus to college most days, even when I was wide awake.

Have you tried taking uppers prior to leaving for your journey?
they're coming to take me away

If I have to make any journey of length I'll usually treat myself to a coffee somewhere along the way, usually at one of the changes.

The trick is to stare at something far in the horizon out the window and let your eyes slowly phase out everything. It's a bit mind numbing but better than trying to socialise or something.
The quest for your perfect gear is like being under the surface of a huge, overpowering lake. When you've nearly swam to the light on the surface it shoots far out of your sight again. Still, I'll enjoy the swim. What'd I do if I reached the top?

I like that feeling like I've been on an epic journey, even when it's just a 4 hour bus ride to DC.

no one can feel like they've been on an epic journey after spending hours on a bus. buses are fucking awful.

International journeys are usually tiring because of time differences and the amount of time spent being bored.

Otherwise I usually manage short and medium distances quite well by sleeping where I can so I arrive pretty well tested. Great for my morning commute into the city too. Less good when commuting home

I don't find it tiring at all. I sleep a lot on flights but that's more because I'm using that time to catch up on sleep from having to wake up early, or resting from having to carry heavy suitcases around. I'm usually wide awake by the time I reach my destination regardless of whether it is 40 hours or 40 minutes away.

It's not a matter of being tired. You aren't moving around or engaged in anything so you just kinda go to sleep. That's my theory at least.

The worst part about travel, at least the commute, isn't that it's physically taxing. It's that it's usually boring.

Because deep down you know that life is without purpose and this realisation weighs you down emotionally and spiritually as you stare upon the meadows alongside the train tracks, seeing the meaningless sheep eating their meaningless grass, farting their meaningless farts, waiting to be turned into the meaningless kebab you're probably going to have for your meaningless dinner tonight.

Staring out of a train, bus, car or plane window is one of my favourite things to do, and I don't even mean that in a depressing way
