Depends on the hands. I have never seen or played a D'Clair so no opinion but I have played handmade that were awesome and handmade that were awful. The former were usually around $4000 or so, and the latter were less than $500. Trust your hands and your ears while comparing known brands to this one.
"Your sound is in your hands as much as anything. It's the way you pick, and the way you hold the guitar, more than it is the amp or the guitar you use." -- Stevie Ray Vaughan

"Anybody can play. The note is only 20 percent. The attitude of the motherfucker who plays it is 80 percent." -- Miles Davis

I agree, speaking about the manfucturing: you can be almost 100% certain what to expect from a given manufacturer and all the guitars from the same model should also be the same in every aspect (sound, etc.).
In a handmade guitar the heart is put in, but there are no strict controls as in the guitar manufacturer's company; there is no "standard point" that has to be achieved, because each model is unique. It varies heavily, because You can have AMAZING guitar made by a genius single-musician or also a complete failure. As Cajundaddy said, it is best to "test" both the guitars that you are offered, seek advices on other forums and along your friends regarding D'Clair - ask about standar, if they are satisfied and so on.
