Hmm at first listen I thought "where have I heard this before..." I still can't quite put my finger on it but I think the riff is fine. You can definitely structure a song around it, it is memorable.

One piece of advice though... you can't worry about what other people will think. You have to do what you like. There will always be criticism and there will always be praise.

Boring is also a subjective term, it might no be boring to someone else, it wasn't to me. Keep it up. You are going in the right direction.

Cheers man, I'm meeting with bandmates for a jam session soon, so maybe something will become of this. Thanks for the feedback!

Serotonite,
Parts of those guitar riffs do sound familiar......ah I remember now. It sounds like parts of a song by KISS during their disco era (when disco was super popular). Thanks to google, I found the song title: "I Was Made for Lovin' You" (on youtube). Your song is not exactly the same (perhaps in a different key), but quite similar. If KISS could make it a hit song, the riff must have some sort of merit. Please review my music at this link:

The riff itself is pretty catchy and I think it would work to write the song structure around it. On the other hand, it would sound a lot better with some more gain and the rest of the instruments, but I assume you just wanted feedback on the riff per-se haha.

Hmmm, yeah I think I can hear that (though the chorus in the KISS song is much more upbeat rhythmically and in a different key). I've never really listened to KISS so that would be purely coincidental, but bearing that in mind I'll go in a different direction with it. Thanks for pointing it out. I'll be sure to check your stuff out.

Speed it up, slap on some distortion on an electric guitar, give it some nice 4/4 drums to accompany it, a nice driving eighth note base line and that would sound quite nice. I think it would be more rewarding to yourself and us commenters if you just go with it and improvise a full song. Would get a lot more helpful and descriptive comments. It's good to sometimes just know if you must go on with the riff and make a song of it. I'll give the go-ahead on this one and then show us what you did, right? Good luck. Check out my stuff if you've got the time

I think this riff has potential, however, if you're bored by it you'd probably be best served to let it go and wait for a riff to come to you that really excites you. That's what will give you the motivation to add, build, layer, and fully flesh it out into an awesome song. I kinda sense that if you need to have other people convince you whether or not you're into this riff then it might not be the best you can bring to the table. Again though, and others have said this too, it's easy for me to imagine other instruments building around this centerpiece and making a pretty cool song. Whether or not that happens is completely up to you. Enjoy that power.

If you'd like to c4c a couple of my most recent tracks, check out this link. I'd love to hear what you think
