trace elliot speed twin 50

here is a link to the manual: http://media.wix.com/ugd/c44a33_ca59e0965d5746c4bc44947c44095426.pdf

i had a microphonic tube, its an ECC82 in one position. i don't know what that tube does though, and i don't have any ECC82's around.

what i was wondering was if i could throw a different tube in there.

for some stupid reason , i don't know what number it is.

help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe the ECC82 is just a 12AU7 which is a lower gain 12AX7. Roughly 70% the gain of its AX brother. Therefore, I would guess that it is being used to drive reverb or an FX loop or possibly as the PI. Where does it sit in relation to the others?

But yeah - any other 12xx7 or ECC8x tube should work fine, especially for testing.

+1 My Ampeg SVT-CL bass amp had those.

It's hard to describe where which.

If you were looking with x-ray from the top. It is the closest tube to the transformer. the 5 tubes are staggered and it is on the front left.

I am thinking it may be the PI.

You bought it used didn't you?
I'm looking at the schem for it right now.
There is no ECC82 there. Only 83's
That ECC82 isn't the stock tube.
Some people like to put a lower gain tube in the PI, for whatever reason (I know the reason but my brain isn't at 100% right now).

So yeah, thats probably the PI

And whatever cath said.

Schem is here if you want it:

(I've been reading a lot about tubes lately)

Edit:
Yeah, V5 is the PI tube

I looked at the manual and saw something i should have seen first. I looked at the specs and it showed the factory tube set up as all 12AX7 and EL34. Even though it doesn't say which tube does what. However i could probably safely just assume its fine to throw a 12AX7 in there.

ehheheh
Yeah, I looked at the manual but for some stupid reason, I stopped looking at it just before the specs section.

When I go to the line "Well that’s about it!" and the address info, I stopped reading it.

Thanks! I got it used 6 years ago used, and it just sounded dull and like a little bit micro.

Yea i sometimes throw lower gain tubes in the PI, however not lower than a 12AT7.

Thanks all.
