Hello,

I've taken to listening to The B-52s, and in a lot of their earlier stuff, their guitarist, Ricky Wilson, used a lot of different guitars in weird tunings, such as CFxxFF, DADxBB, EBBxBB, etc.

I figured I'd get myself a nice cheaper guitar to experiment with these tunings on.

So...parameters. Single coil (preferably with a beefier sound...so Telecaster, P90s, etc). Hardtail bridge. Under $500 new or used. No super skinny necks, I like mine with either a 1.68"+ neck width, fat depth/shoulders, or both. That's all.

The Peavey Firenza has already been suggested to me, as has Classic Vibe Telecaster (though the specs on that neck have me worried). What else can you guys suggest?

I literally just bought this Godin Richmond Belmont tonight, and I think you'd dig it:

It sports Seymour Duncan lipstick pickups in the middle & neck, and their '59 humbucker in the bridge. They're discontinued, but new ones sitting on shelves still cost over $700. I know of several under $500 on Reverb, eBay and Guitar Center's websites.

I have the HSS version of this Fret-King, imported for @$780 from England, and I bought it because the store ran out of THIS version (in orange):

Yep, instead of a HB in the bridge, it has a P90. It's a quality guitar.

This is the Italia Modulo T3, which has the same basic design idea.

(Yes, I know these all have trems, but...)

G&L's Tribute line are Indonesian versions of their USA line...made with many of the same parts- including pickups- as their more expensive cousins. Here's something up your alley:
