I just picked up a mesa solo single rec head and was wondering if it would be ok to use a 25 watt cabinet with it since the head is 50 watts? the cab is the traynor darkhorse 1x12" with a celestion greenback.

yes, but keep the volume pretty low or you run the risk of killing the speaker. As soon as you get any type of speaker distortion, turn the amp back down or you will blow the speaker.

I run my 100watt Marshall with a 60watt 2x12 cab sometimes, I just keep the volume in check.

Congrats.

I have a Single Rec too. A Rectoverb. What Rob said is correct but I would NOT use it as any kind of long term strategy. Also, you need to do a NAD thread.

You should be fine, just don't open it too much. Can't you also drop the wattage from the back to half power?

not on the 50watters, and not on rectos that are over a few years old (they recently put the multi watt switch on them)
