I'm looking for some input before pulling the trigger on an A/B/Y box.

The main reason why I want one right now, is to be able to run my talk box in an a/b setup with my normal rig, and a small combo to drive it. I want something with the Y function to have the option of splitting my signal to two amps at once in the future. I've got 2 questions:

1. What's the main difference between a true bypass, and buffered box? I know with most guitar pedals, you want to go true bypass, depending on the buffer; but from what I've been reading, it sounds like if a buffered box is the best way to go, for running both amps at once?

2. What do you guy's recommend I go for?

For a price range, I'm a cheap bastard, but I want to get something sensible. I'm in Saskatoon Canada.

Jet City makes THIS amp switch, that seems like a steal; but I can't find much info, or reviews on it.

A couple more I've see at L&M.

Bufferred just means that there is a buffer amplifier (normally with unity gain) on each input. It can be a useful thing, largely dependent on the amplifiers being used.
True bypass is just physical switches hard wiring everything together. This is the ABY box that I make. It's not buffered as you can see:

It's a lot cheaper to build than what you are looking at.

In the US you can get a Morley aby used for as little as $20, that's what I bought and later sold mine for. I only sold it cause I had no use for it anymore and a friend did though. It did the job perfectly.

I just got a MXR ABY pedal for $60 and I really like it. It has the standard MXR durability and cool, easy to read blue LEDs. It also has a 'C' path for lack of a better way of saying it that can be hooked up to a tuner or 3rd amp - which is what I use it for. I am assuming it is true bypass.

Radial engineering big shot. Hard to beat, but it's a few bucks more, look it up.

Or build one.

The Live Wire ABY1 Footswitch has worked quite well for me. It is rugged, has bright legible Blue LEDS and doesn't cost a fortune.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I think I may have enough spare parts on hand to try and build that one Cath. I'll give it a go on my days off here, and report back!

I bought a fender ab/y from axe music. I think it was only around $80 maybe. It's a mini sized pedal, and you don't even need to power it. The only power it requires is to power the led light.
