Believe in Control

The hand is for suffocation
Control is a virtue
Power is your sacrament
Love the taste
The sugar is as good as blood
Do you pray to the sky?
Do you pray to yourself?
Do you pray to yourself?

Created your feeble universe
Use a box to maintain control

Do you really believe
In a superior being?
Or do you build yourself
Into this false god
For your petty pursuit
You know nothing
Love yourself
You self-righteous mortal
Just as good as dead
Know your place

The hand controls the leash
Fear is the power
And you're its devoted whore
Who controls who
When you love yourself
Who do you love?
Do you love yourself?
Do you love yourself?

Destroy that fragile universe
The box you used to control

Do you really believe
In a superior being?
Or do you build yourself
Into this false god
For your petty pursuit
You know nothing
Love yourself
You self-righteous mortal
Just as good as dead
Know your place

If you're god, then god is dead meat!
If you're god, then god is dead meat!

You're only a god of pathetic existence
Serving yourself
No one else
Just like us
You wretched fake
Your god is self-serving control

Do you really believe
In a superior being?
Or do you build yourself
Into this false god
For your petty pursuit
You know nothing
Love yourself
You self-righteous mortal
Just as good as dead
Know your place

Politics and religion are my lyrical bread and butter, so to speak. I'm not angry at faith, so much as people who pervert it--like televangelists (Joel Osteen, Benny Hinn, etc). This one is really a two level song: it's critical of bullshitting for-profit preachers, but the underlying theme is about people who really just want power and say whatever they will to get it, like politicians.

I gotcha. Yeah, very good at conveying that message. I'm non-religious (spiritual but not religious) so I understand the issues at hand.
