I'm talking people who play (or in lieu of playing at least hold and TRY to play) instruments, not singers. No, the human voice isn't an instrument, Mariah Carey, although I'm sure I could make some interesting strings from your vocal chords.

I'll start off with Sid Vicious. A bass player that couldn't play bass. And some people still think the Sex Pistols were great (hint: they weren't. They were terrible across the board, but Sid was the worst).

Who are you guys thinking of? Probably best to go with a corpse like I did, unless you don't care about offending any living musicians.

Oh....I'm adding myself to the list. Was practicing outside an Indian Casino a couple months ago and an old guy stopped and listened for awhile. Before he left he tossed 50 cents in my case, so that makes me a professional! And I'm most definitely a shitty musician.

Richey Edwards.

The guy was an amazing lyricist, but couldn't play a note.

And mysteriously disappeared, but we can't all be perfect.

I'm sure you are right. But even talented people aren't always equal, some are better than others. Probably a better thread title would've been something like "people who are professional musicians who shouldn't be", or something like that. "Shittiest" is more attention grabbing though.

Meanie. I like Green Day quite a bit. They are "emo", right?

I'd call Green Day pop-punk, but the good sort.

I mean, up to and including American Idiot at least.

I'd never heard of the guy before you turned me onto him in this thread. Read the wikipedia article, was very interesting.

You think he's still alive? He was presumed dead in 2008, but they never found a body. Plus fans keep reporting that they've seen him (but they say the same thing about Elvis and Jim Morrison).

I think American Idiot is the best album to come out in the last 20 years.

Thanks for the definition. I'm guessing "emo" doesn't mean bands that wear tons of eye makeup (I guessed Green Day was emo because of Billie Joe's eye shadow). That is all I know about emo...that they like eye shadow. Guess I'm out of touch by a couple decades or so.

Every punk guitarist. Also, Phil Rudd. I like AC/DC, but that guy is a very replacable drummer.

The good thing about presenting original music today is that there are so many more avenues to distribute music and reach the public via the internet with things like Soundcloud, CD Baby, iTunes etc.etc. It's also the really bad thing about music today.

In the bad old days when record companies controlled the media there were A&R guys, producers, real engineers, real recording studios, music publishers and record execs who filtered the music we heard. That sucked in many ways but it provided a filter for the really lame stuff although it often worked against some really good bands that faded away without having a contract or getting their songs heard. Unfortunately now that those filters have been removed anybody who can blow a kazoo and record on their iPhone, puts their stuff out there and dilute the market making it difficult to find real talent among all the garbage. It also made the whole thing worse by allowing anyone with nearly unlimited funds and backing to drive the market and create personalities with no musical talent.

So we got rid of the record companies pretty much and look what are we left with? A media market jammed to overflowing with samples and unoriginal garbage and no talent wanna be's where a band can't even get paid for their efforts without non-stop touring. It's no wonder a concert ticket is now so expensive. There is no financial support that once existed where labels would sponsor a tour so they could sell music, collect royalties and pay the bands. It's all disappearing.
Yes I am guitarded also, nice to meet you.

I just don't see it, he plays guitar as well as any acoustic open chord fuck boy you see busking on the streets or at open mic nights, his voice is nothing special either.

He does it to a superlative degree. Simple as. He's shaved off every imprecision and honed that style of looper-pedal acoustic wankery into something very identifiable but simultaneously very... faceless. He's very very talented.

Whether his music is good is another matter, but from what I've seen, he's pretty sincere, unless his last album was complete wank.

It still just sounds like any lame generic guy with an acoustic to me.

He is the epitome of that guy that picks up an acoustic guitar, learns 3 or 4 chords and how to arpeggio then doesn't stop pulling out their fucking guitar at every opportunity and barraging you with their shitty songs.

Except now the radio is ramming his music down your throat for him. I just want him to fuck off already and take his boring, shitty music with him.
