So i have this strat. It's a partscaster.

Some Fender, some Aria, some who knows.

The current body is a MIJ Aria body, either Alder or Basswood, 4-5 pieces.

Anyway, here's the next body. 2 piece Swamp Ash back, 1 piece top. Warmoth chambered goodness, weighs in around 3.5 pounds.

Thinking 2 tone burst with ash grain filler. hrmmm, rethinking. thinking.... more of a natural to brown burst. i'll try to find a pic of what i'm after.

kinda like this finish, at least in color tones.

or

Whenever I'm done with it, she'll go on the partscaster.

i have way too much grain filler on hand to be buying something new rob.

that does look cool though. very cool.

i'd like to have this completed by the 4th of july. it's just a date i picked in my head for no reason, other than it gives me plenty of time.

sharky i can't wait as well. i've refinished about 6 bodies now and i'm finally at the point where i feel good about the results i get. i'm sure i'll learn a lot on this one too, i always do.

also, this is by far the nicest body i've had to work with, pretty psyched about that.

alan!

best way is to start with a kit or parts like Greg did by getting a body and neck that work together. here is a few sites with cheap but decent kits and parts

www.guitarfetish,com
www.byoguitar.com
www.warmoth.com is more expensive, but make a quality product

just found out we have a spray booth at work. well, we have an area that we paint stuff now, not really a "spray booth" in the usual meaning of the term.

the good part is, it's kept at 60-65 degrees F at minimum. i'm pretty stoked about that. my only other real option is weather temp dependent, so i thought it was going to be May before i could shoot anything.

Eh, fair enough ^^

I do shitpost quite a bit, but TRY to stay on topic heh

Yep, definitely good spirits. Folks can't frazzle so easily.

Immaturity and naivety are a horrendous combo for me, but I am not caring so much to be liked or disliked in Forums easily. Whatever happens, happens

It's not being liked or disliked here, it is about giving people help and good advice. And good help is what most people here want.

the grain filling process has commenced. i'll do it twice on each side to be sure i've got it filled completely. this step is critical to it coming out nice, skimp here and it'll show.

i should mention, i received this body sealed and ready for grain filler.

sanded it back, and it looked pretty good. then, do it again, said the body.

i was a little too aggressive in my sanding and pulled some of the filler out so third time is a charm.

in theory.

was a little more careful with the top.

Nice looking body! I'm sittin on a brand new Warmoth swamp ash Tele body myself, waiting for the May weather to start finishing. Just picked up some ash localy for some finish practice. Planning on a dye and lacquer finish.

Yeah but I really like how the top came out, I think I'm just going to burst the edges and call it a day.

I say that like it's an easy thing to do.
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger, then it hit me.

Never rubbed over...

I lie.

I never rubbed a finish over sealer, not sure how that works. Was gonna still just burst the edges with black, not brown. More of a rim burst. To show more of the ash top.

thanks!

i wanted to see how the headstock would match with the body, better than i expected.

i still have to burst the edges of the body but i noticed i need to grain fill once again. some of the pores still look open.

i weighed all the parts, including strings and a plastic bag to hold all the loose stuff. it all added up to 7.4 lbs. i'd be good with that.
