young love
becomes adult envy
when adult love becomes
a hopeful mystery.

a hug,
they'll let go first,
and adult brevities become
a lonely history.

old smiles
become adult manners
when adult smiles become
an awkward policy.

a glance,
you pretend not,
and adult glimpses become
a civil society.

i suppose there's a chance
i'm just a litte too shallow to consider
that maybe i've been a little more eager
each day to wake up and take a shower
brush my teeth and smile for the mirror

I liked a lot of this, but something stopped me from loving it. Ended on a weak note. The first stanza was just so good.

Maybe it's that the line breaks felt forced?
