Hi.

Took the chance today to get a micro dark as a small practice amp. The trouble i'm having with it is that I am getting A LOT of crackle/hum whilst not playing.

The hum starts with the volume at notch 1 and the gain at notch 8 or above.

I'm using an orange 1x8 speaker, the one supplied with the Micro Terror.

Hopefully someone can help me out here.

Thanks.

Hi thanks for answering.

I'm using an ibanez with ibanez/duncan designed pickups and also tried with a bc rich with passive emg 81.

I'm usung the white speaker cable that came with the amp.

does your guitar buzz with other amps? maybe its bad grounding. if not, maybe get a better quality amplifier cable.
I have Washburn guitars 'Maverick Series' and bass 'Bantam Series' and a few pedals and amps, but man I wish to have more patience and drive practicing my playing, if it's equal to the modding itch, then I'm golden.

I'd say it might be the tube, but I'm not sure. Take it back tomorrow and get another one and test it in the store

try it in a different room of your house and see if it still happens

does it do it if the guitar cable is not plugged in?

Ended up using a drifferent speaker cable, it seems to have settle it down. Not sure I am too keen on the Orange speaker though, it's rather bassy for my taste. The head sounds great plugged into my pc though via a focusrite.

The orange 1x8 is shit at best

And a 8" speaker is far and away from what I'd call bassy. Your just used to amps that sound like shit

I mean, yeah, I use a 1x12 with mine but the micro dark tone knob is still based on pretty dark (like the name) EQ. I need to use external EQ control to get the treble right for me. Tone is subjective though.

Just checked mine to be sure, if I have the volume around 1ish and crank the gain a get a fairly silent hiss but it's not audible at all over the playing, just standard high gain background "ssssss". Defo not a buzz like you get, OP.
The quest for your perfect gear is like being under the surface of a huge, overpowering lake. When you've nearly swam to the light on the surface it shoots far out of your sight again. Still, I'll enjoy the swim. What'd I do if I reached the top?

Shots fired. Bassy was probably the wrong word, I meant muddy, not enough treble.

Shame we're not all made of money though to be able to afford high end gear.

I was just messing with you. Trust me I played with shit gear for 7-8 years so I know the feeling.

It's fine

Another issue is finding room for gear too.

Anyway, whilst still on the topic, can anyone recommend a good cab for the micro dark? Preferably a 212.

what is your budget?

if you are looking on the cheap, grab something with decent speakers off of CL. t75's v30's k100, eminence legends, etc. speakers matter more than the cab (in general) and at the moment i have at least four cabs (4x12") that came with good speakers that i got for under $300. 2x12"s are a little harder to find and aren't as good of a deal usually.

This cab is good and cheap (even in the USA) you can't hardly ever find a deal this good and it ships world wide for $203.00 for the cab and a flat $33 for shipping. You will probably have to pay import taxes on it, but it will still be <$300 for a new V30 loaded cab. you can't buy the speakers retail for that
