I am thinking of replacing my stock tubes with something like Tube Amp Doctor (TAD) EL84-STR.

The stocks are in:
Preamp and phase inverter: 2 x ECC83/12AX7 valves
Poweramp: 2 x EL84

The TT is made for gain so I want to retain it and am not really interested in clean tones with it. What else would match the TAD setup?

I would just pop in some JJ's, that is what I have in my dual terror. cheap, sound good, and durable.

You could go NOS, but that is a different level.

I have JJ EL84 tubes in my Vox AC30. I like them enough, and you can probably find them cheaper than TAD tubes. Usually someone chimes in about reliability issues and what not whenever tubes are discussed. I haven't had any issues with any of the JJ tubes that I've ordered lately.

How are they biased? If they are cathode biased, definitely use JJ EL84's. They are the only modern EL84 that likes cathode biasing.
