I dropped a pair of Celestion v30's in my 2x12 cab not too long ago. I dig them, especially for my lead sounds. However, I have noticed that when I'm really driving my amp, it doesn't seem to handle bass that well at high volumes. I've done some reading and some people say this is known with these speakers...can anyone really verify? Also, what speakers would you folks recommend? I'm looking for speakers that can handle a heavy, high-gain playing style.

I would say maybe get a g12t75 and pair it with a V30. What 2x12 cab do you have? The size of the cab might limit the overall bass response as well.
Gibson LP traditional and DC standard, SG standard, MIA Standard Strat, Schecter Banshee 7
EVH 5153, Orange TV50H 2-2x12's

The size of the 2x12 cab I am not sure of...to be honest, I had bought it dirt cheap that had awful speakers in it to begin with, with intent to rip them out and drop these in.

It's possible that poor cab design is a factor. Celestion G12K-100 speakers handle low end very well. It might be worth while to swap out one or both of your V30 speakers for K-100.

I would recommend (if you haven't already) check out sound bytes on Warehouse Guitar Speaker's site. You might get the sound you want by swapping out one of your speakers, and leaving the other one in.

when you say "handle bass" do you mean the bass farts out or that there isn't enough bass? v30s are pretty tight but i don't have a mass of experience with them at high volumes.
I'm an idiot and I accidentally clicked the "Remove all subscriptions" button. If it seems like I'm ignoring you, I'm not, I'm just no longer subscribed to the thread. If you quote me or do the @user thing at me, hopefully it'll notify me through my notifications and I'll get back to you.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

^^Good question to ask -- I was going to ask the same thing.

Also, what tuning are you playing in? If you're trying to play in Drop A or something subterranean like that -- you may have to re-evaluate your entire rig.

I've found V 30s to have plenty of low-end, albeit tight low-end. But yeah, something like a G12K-100 or Eminence Swamp Thang would bring a little more low-end chunk into the mix.

when I bought some new V30's in my 2x12 cab they sounded terrible on anything but the clean channel ..... after 15 hours of playing loud they tamed down and started sounding like they are supposed too ...... after 30 some hours of playing the sounded fabulous on all channels , after 50 hours of playing loud I wouldn't change them for anything ..... Mesa recto cabs come with V30 and can thump , I got a used "well broken in" 4x12 Mesa cab and it can thump your chest with the Dual Rectifier

so how many loud hours do you have on your speakers ??

I swear by k85's/k100's. Especially paired with V30's.
