Played a Chieftain head and 2x12 recently for sale used and am in live. The price is quite high but it had the most fantastic cleans I've heard, probably along the lines of a Dumble spank and chime.
Wonder how they do on higher gain? Do they even make something for us shrednecks?

What was your impression of them beyond that? Genuinely curious- looking at an Avalon online...
Sturgeon's 2nd Law, a.k.a. Sturgeon's Revelation: “Ninety percent of everything is crap.”

Why, yes, I am a lawyer- thanks for asking!

Log off and play yer guitar!

Strap on, tune up, rock out!

I've played a bunch of them. They aren't really going to get super high gain.

i've played through 3 so far and they aren't a high gain type amp. some of the crunch tones were nice but that was about it in terms of distortion. the clean tones were great and the blues edge of breakup tones were excellent.

I've never played the avalon but I'm a little biased. I don't consider the avalon a real matchless. It wasn't produced until Sampson left the company and it isn't point to point.
