Hi,

Long time lurker, first time poster...

I just bought a Gibson ES 339, and I wonder if it is a real deal.

The thing that confuses me is dots on the fretboard...Anywhere I look, it's inlays, not dots...

Serial number is ME402427, and it doesn't return any results. I emailed Gibson, but so far, no answer from them.

I tried uploading pictures, but here is the link...

Thanks

who did you buy it from?
I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger, then it hit me.

Unless it's the picture, doesn't the serial on the headstock appear to not be flush with the actual headstock?
They don't sleep anymore on the beach..

From what I can quickly gather from a Google search, the Memphis 2014 models have dot inlays (which I believe yours is judging by the ME4... serial number). You're reference picture is indeed a 2016, where they changed the inlays to blocks.

I just got the email from Gibson, which confirms that it's real

"The pictures and serial number are consistent with a 2014 Gibson Memphis ES-339 Satin model in Cherry finish. The 2014 model did indeed have Dot inlays. They were changed to Block inlays in 2015. Thanks, and I hope this helps!"

Big thank you to everyone who replied...

Wow. Gibson's customer service is actually pretty good.
