I bought a vox ac30vr about a year ago because it was such a good deal. About 2 months ago the amp starting making this popping sound and would go on for about 10 seconds then stop. It didn't bother me to much as it would only happen once a day. The other day I turned it on to play and had the master volume at about 12 o clock, gain all the way up, gain volume around 1 o clock. Usually this would be fairly loud but this time it was very soft. Before you say it, the volume on my guitar was all the way up. I tried 2 different guitars so I know it wasn't the guitar causing it. The volume was also very low on the clean channel. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My first guess is that you need to change the 12AX7 tube in it.
Guitars:
Jackson Kelly KE3 - MIJ (Distortion/Jazz)
Jackson DKMGT Dinky (EMG 81/85)
ESP E-II Eclipse Custom (JB/'59)
ESP LTD EC-1001FR (EMG 81/60)
Fender MIM Strat

Amps:
Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier Roadster 212
Laney IronHeart IRT-Studio
Peavey Vypyr 30
Peavey ReValver Amp Sims
TOOOO many T.C. Electronic Pedals. . .

Unless it's something extremely simple, it's unfortunately likely that any troubleshooting and repair cost will exceed the value of the amp. That's one of the problems with inexpensive solid state amps.

Is there a way to tell if this is it? This would be a lot cheaper than buying an amp.

Yes, change it out. Consider the cost a cheap troubleshooting fee.

What tube should I get?

Any inexpensive 12AX7. I prefer JJ's, but get whatever is available.

Agreed. Don't know squat about your amp but I don't see how the brand of 12AX7 is really going to affect the tone with how it's being used, except hopefully making it work again!
