hey all - i just picked up a kramer pacer classic as a second guitar to my epi LP custom pro.

I want to replace the bridge pickup in the Kramer with something that would be best for 80's rock type music - from scorpions to dokken to ratt to evh, etc.

The guy i bought the guitar from mentioned GFS VEH pickups - any experience with them?

btw, It has to come in zebra. What do you recommend?

Thanks for any input.

Personally, I prefer JB's but for this job the super distortion is the right choice IMO.

I don't jive with JB's. They never sang right for me and I have had them in quite a few guitars.

I think that the Super Distortion is perfect for the task.

I like the note definition of JB's. They do show up your mistakes a lot. They force me to play better.

Tesla makes some nice pickups. For an 80s tone, I chose their VR Extreme, but others in the lineup might be as good or better. Anyway, here are some demos for it:

Dimarzio Super Distortion - another +1 from me, or Seymour Duncan SH4.

Seems to be a consensus here - thanks for your input!

Ha, it would be a shame to have anything else but a JB in a Kramer.

Not that it's needed at this point, but...

Another vote for the Super Distortion!

I have one in my Jackson DK2M (w/a PAF Pro in the neck). If it's 80's rock/metal tones you want, you definitely won't be disappointed with one.
- Gibson Flying V 120 #1 (White)
- Gibson Flying V 120 #2 (Cherry)
- Gibson SG Standard ('61 style)
- Jackson DK2M

- ENGL Fireball 60
- Avatar 4x12

- Many pedals, plus other stuff

Bareknuckle Rebel Yells would be another excellent choice.

Perhaps a little more "shred" than you would like but I REALLY like the Tone Zone for that type of fat 80s shreddy tone. The Distortion is probably more typical, but I always like a chance to recommend the Tone Zone, as it is a bitchin' pickup.

Super Distortion is more of a 70s hard rock pickup, to me. The JB became common in the later 80s, but the pickup which really took over 80s rock—Kramers in particular—is actually the Dimarzio PAF Pro. It's cleaner and more responsive than the Super Distortion, and it doesn't have the upper-mid spike of the JB. A PAF Pro with a single 500k volume control is the 80s tone, assuming your amp and pedals are also up to the task.

Look up Richie Sambora's playing in the 80s, on the early Bon Jovi records, back when they were full-on 80s hard rock before all the hair metal power ballads started. His signature Kramer released with three SD JBs, but his actual guitars used PAF Pros—in 3-pickup LP copies and many Kramers—and that's what was used on those recordings.

PAF Pro + an occasional tubescreamer or Boss SD+1 + JCM800 = absolute 80s hard rock.
Yes, I know everything. No, I can't play worth a damn.
