John Sykes, can you hear me?
John Sykes, can you see me?
John Sykes, can you find me in the crowd?
John Sykes, are you near me?
John Sykes, can you hear me?
John Sykes, can you turn your amp up louder?
Walking through L. A., I seem to see
A million eyes, which ones are yours?
Where are you now that Blue Murder
Has waved goodbye
And closed its doors?
The night is so much stiller;
The sweat is so much colder;
The biz I see is so much bigger
Now that you’re alone.
John Sykes, please forgive me.
Try to understand me;
John Sykes, don't you know we love your voice?
Can you hear me praying,
Everything I’m saying
Even though the club is filled with voices?
I remember everything you played me
Every note I've ever heard
And all your words in all the songs
Help me to face what lies ahead
The stage is so much taller
And I feel so much smaller;
Their songs are twice as wordy
And the fingers half as dirty
John Sykes, how I dig you
John Sykes, how I need you.
John Sykes, how I miss you
Playing tunes all night...

John Sykes IS THE GUITARIST OF WHITESNAKE

He's not been in Whitensnake for almost 30 years dude.

True...but he defined the sound of that band just as much as David Coverdale's voice.

He also wrote or co-wrote the majority of the material on the self titled 1987 album.

I'd say that wins major points with me.

Yea, but he's been out of the band for far longer than he was in the band.

Essentially you're saying like saying Reagan is POTUS.

Point taken, but nobody since that album has been able to equal it, much less than top it.

Hell...even Steve Vai couldn't measure up.

Basically all that I'm saying is that album defined the band's (David Coverdale's) career.

/rant.

The only thing notable about Sykes now is his LP.

All of this coming from someone that plays a lapsteel...
nothing against lapsteels, or the people who play them of course.

You are aware that you have a photo of Randy Rhoads as your avatar, right?

I don't consider what he played and wrote in the Ozzy Osbourne band to be "hair metal" by any stretch of the imagination...but take one good look at the photos available on Google search under the name Randy Rhoads, and you could safely guess that to this day there is still a hole in the ozone layer over the greater Burbank, California area from the amount of Aguanet he used.

1987 isnt even good by whitesnake standards its by far the most boring album i own

theres literally nothing of merit until that groovy riff in still of the night and then it's back downhill from there

Whitesnake is good if you're a 40 year old mom.

He absolutely could. In fact, he rocked so hard, Coverdale decided to quit music for a few months, and Whitesnake entirely for 3 and a bit years.

I know that Vai kills it on that album and tour. But still not as good as what Sykes on that 1987 album.

Anyways...good talking to you again Slapsy...I've gotta run. Playing a show tonight, and I have to show up early before the venue's doors open to the public for setup and soundcheck.

for the record John Sykes was also in Thin Lizzy and Tygers Of Pan Tang as well as Blue Murder. sadly he hasn't done much in recent years. as far as being as skilled a player as Steve Vai well probably not though he is a fine player in the Gary Moore mold.

Whitesnake is not hair metal and existed long before that genre came to be.
