Hello everyone. I had to stop trying to learn Pearl Jam's Black, because I always choke up toward the end of the song; which kills my attempt to sing along with my playing. Does anyone have any advice for keeping emotions in check when playing something that reminds you of your first girlfriend? Thanks. Dave

Fight through it but don't snuff it out completely because that visible emotion will enhance your performance in the eyes of your audience.
My old signature was too long. Have a daisy.

Stop being a pussy. Eddie Vedder isn't speaking your emotions, he's really just drunk and sad he's out of beer.

Cry harder, TS. Tears are an emotional experience outside categorically distinct from the existential nothingness to which you'll shortly return, just like I returned to your mum last night. Over and over. You're welcome - David

Embrace the emotional experience you get when you play. It means it's alive and it's in you and coming from you. Maybe try channeling that energy into some of your own songwriting.

Not when you're playing a cover song

If he was doing an original piece I'd agree, but a cover? It's just gonna look sad
