Are female beauty standards becoming as unattainable as men's?

It is interesting to see how female beauty standards have changed over the years. Are they becoming unattainable for the average man to acheive without specialised diets and a huge amount of time in front of the make up table?

Here is an image of Farrah Fawcett who was considered a sex symbol in the 70s:

Would that pass for being a sex symbol now? Is that desirable? She just looks like a normal lady.

To see the change that has happened in barely 10 years look at Jean Grey in the X-Men films.

So are female beauty standard just as hard to attain as male ones, and how are they perpetuated by the media?

Expectations of female standards are typically more aggressively made and yes many of the poses and distributions of body mass are far less realistic - or even possible - than male ones.

why? we all know about female beauty standards i just dont think them very interesting to discuss compared to male ones which dont get discussed as often

women are under a lot more pressure to look good day to day but the current #instafleek look is something that a lot of girls are into and they seem to enjoy doing their make up and getting their brows fleek so good on them tbh

I think this whole beauty standards thing is kinda ridiculous. Just be healthy and study your studies and practice your practices. That is beauty.

There really isn't one for males because it's always changing so extremely and rapidly.
It changes from year to year week to week, and even day to day.
Today the super smart computer guy with a great tech job is the man. Tommorrow the gangster guy with tattoos on his face is where it's at.
This morning the big oily muscle guy is all the rage, in the afternoon the clumsily charming British guy is getting the ladies(or Jon Cusack for the American version of that)

For women it's always gonna be about how hot your body is and how pretty your face is. That never changes.

I reckon female beauty standards are easier to obtain. Because if a fat ugly woman posts a picture somewhere you just know some loser is going to say "you look lovely babe xxxx" even though they are fat and ugly.

But if an absolutely perfect skinny guy like me posts a pic and says "I am skinny and perfect but I have pectus excavatum I hope that's ok xxx" someone is going to say "No that is not ok I like guys to have a perfect chest and a 6 pack even though I am fat and ugly and don't deserve a guy like that xxxx"

But hey at least I'm not fat hahahaha
I have nothing important to say

Female beauty standards are harder to attain I think. Not everyone can look like Kate Upton. All the bikini bod articles, how to loose 10 pound in 10 days, secrets for amazing abs, it never ends. Supermodels are disgusting skeletons yet pushed as beautiful and plus size girls (Amy Schumer is plus sized, really? Shes an average sized woman) are relegated to funny or shock value roles.

Mens beauty standards piss me off too though. I am bald and have really crooked teeth due to not being able to afford to get my wisdom teeth out in time, despite having braces as a teen. When I had hair and straight teeth I was pursued frequently by women... now most don't even look at me. I am the same dude I was then, but that doesn't matter, just my looks. I practically never see bald guys in hunky/sexy roles like you used too sometimes (Jason Statham as a rare exception). Like look at the dudes on the Bachelorette for example... that is not a real reprisentation of men and it sucks. I wish I didn't care like most guys, but going from hot to my current state has really illustrated to me just how shalow our current society is.

tl;dr: Both sexes suffer from nearly unattainable beauty standards IMO

Your posts of late have been so incendiary but at the same they are perfect social commentary

I think that both male and female beauty standards are kind of, disjointed from society. Beauty standards are after all just manufactured images to sell products, whether that be actual beauty products or even movies.

It's a personal choice whether or not you want to adhere to that social construct. I, for one, find myself cringing at girls who 'doll' up to match a specific image of a super model/tv personality. Like the Amy Winehouse period was exceptionally bad for that. But you know some people liked that look and it perpetuated into a style that many felt they had to adhere to.

But the thing is, you adhere by choice if you're an adult. Don't conform if you don't want to. I understand that beauty standards can be really condemning and overwhelming for both sexes, but when you step outside of that social construct you'll find yourself much happier. You're probably even more likely to then find people you actually want to be with.
