I will be using a wampler tripple wreck with one of these amps. I'm mainly going to play metallica, slayer, iron maiden, black sabbath, and megadeth. Plse do not suggest another amp I've narrowed it down to these two. Which one would you guys suggest?

I've got the DSL40 and an HT20. If you get the DSL make sure you get the one with the Creamback speaker. Otherwise you might find the amp too raspy sounding.

To me the HT has a more biting tone than than the DSL. I need to use an EQ with the HT's clean channel since it has an odd honky tone to it (too many boosted lower mids).

The randall is an OK amp but nothing more. I deff wouldn't pay for a new one when an old RG will only set you back $200ish.

The DSL40c is decent and really gets better with a speaker swap.

Blackstar are lying asshats. and besides that the HT series is mediocre sounding at best

Give us budget and location and we can find you something way better if you don't mind going used. You can get Mesa Rectoverb combos, mesa mark III combos and tons of other great amps out there that make those 3 seem like utter crap for the same kind of cash

+1 on Peavey JSX and the Ultra
I've got a 112 and it kills! Plus it's extremely versatile. The Crunch channel can get the tones you want with gain to spare (never had it past 1 o'clock) and the ultra channel can get you into some more extreme gain, modern type of metal sound (never had it past 9 o'clock), and all without a need for any boost/overdrive pedals. It's tight as hell if you want it to be, and if want a looser lower end response it can do that too.
JXS is a version of the Ultra modded to Satriani's spec.

Is there a reason you want to/have to buy new?
#13
I would want to buy new because I dont want to have to replace the tubes incase I get a piece of shit

stock tubes are shit most of the time anyway, i always put new tubes when i buy a new or even a used amp. its a baseline, and that way you will have extras.

Im really leaning toward the randall rg1503 212 I think it will give a meaner metal sound with the pedal. Is the marshall dsl40c that much better or are they comparable?
#16
they are very different. i wouldn't bother with the randall myself.

why use the pedal with a amp that has nice OD already?

if you want to use the pedal, get a clean oriented amp to use as a pedal platform.

well I really love pedal distortion. I also want to use the amp for dialing in sounds too. I dont just want a clean amp. Maybe I could use the od on the amp for like acdc or black sabbath

a decent amp's OD will sound better than any pedal 99% of the time.

from your OP i think the marshall would do a better job than the randall.

am i the only one here who would seriously consider the randall?

unless you're looking for the marshall cleans on the side the randall shouldn't be overlooked.

yeah you are, the Randall RG series is OK at best and when compared to the DSL40c and even the HT20, the DSL40c and the HT20 are only OK amps but much better than the RG.

Personally I'd buy a used JSX over any of those 3 you mentioned any day even used you are getting a much better quality amp with the JSX as it is a USA made amp. actually all the amps I listed are Made in the USA, which does make a big deal in QC when compared to made in China amps

What excited me about the randall was getting dimes tone.

I'm not gonna start a shit storm, but Dime's tone is arguably pretty bad for anything other than Pantera. and If you want Dime tones that are decent look at a used Krank K-stein 2x12 combo which was Dime's last sig amp

Well ill have the wampler tripple wreck with it too.

that is a decent pedal, but the amps I listed have dirty channels that kill it in every way
I mean it is your money and you need to be happy. But as my experience has showed me get the best amp you can afford and that is what I'm trying to help you do. If you really want a new amp then by all means get a new amp, if you want the best amp you can afford go used

If you buy the dsl40c it will need new tubes anyway - and a new speaker. The oem crap is, well, crap.
Seriously, buy the JSX.

+1 and the DSL40c is the best amp that TS is looking at and it will still need $200 extra in tubes and a speaker to make it a decent amp.

The JSX is a great amp, I had one for a few years and they sound insanely good. the cleans are beautiful the crunch is great and the ultra ch. can rip your face off.
