For years I've wanted to write a song for Washington County (where I live in Maine). This is what spilled out of my face...

Miles On My Mind

Take a while to walk downtown
Don't be alarmed, there's no one around
It's been so long since we've all seen the sun
The stretch of blacktop up ahead
Leads to nowhere no one's been
City life is begging me to run

So take me back where I belong
Stay on track like nothing's wrong
Take me home, this winding road
Goes on for miles and miles and miles on my mind

The storefronts are all boarded up
It's been a ghost town long enough
The log trucks don't bother slowing down
Everyone knows everyone's name
There's no one left to lay the blame
Hell, there's nothing up here for miles around

So take me back where I belong
Stay on track like nothing's wrong
Take me home, this winding road
Goes on for miles and miles and miles on my mind
Take me home, this winding road
Goes on for miles and miles and miles on my mind

I ain't got the money or the heart to leave just yet
I don't know how far these words can go
It might be the way the world turns slower every day
Then again, it's probably in my head

So take me back where I belong
Stay on track like nothing's wrong
Take me home, this winding road
Goes on for miles and miles and miles on my mind
Goes on for miles and miles and miles on my mind
Goes on for miles and miles and miles on my mind

Personally, I think they're 'fine' - They're not good, they're not bad, just functional. It sounds like you're really trying to connect to people by keeping it vague, this can work sometimes but it means that pretty much every line/image in this is really predictable and been done before many times. Try approaching it from the other angle and find something strangely specific and significant to your personal experience of Maine, and then write about that instead. The other details will fall in around it much easier and it will probably be more effective (this doesn't ALWAYS work). C4C? https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1703546
