Or, no original culture. It's all taken from somewhere else and is still really bland.

I don't see how they don't have that, or how theirs is bland then.

Maybe lacking in the 'refined' in some places....

Square dances were first documented in 17th-century England but were also quite common in France and throughout Europe.

Yeah, this is a lot of America to be fair.

But then what is quintessentially British? Tea. We can't claim that one, but we do. Because we fucking own it. It's us.

I think this is true for a lot of American culture (like they say 'as American as apple pie' and other cringe shit, but they own it).

It's more so that I can't think of a lot of things that define America.

Britain's got tea. But we've also got Yorkshire pudding, fish and chips, beef wellington etc. Ireland has Guinness, Scotland has haggis and single malt. Other counties in Europe have their own easily recognisable stereotypes, values and cultures.

What's America's food? Sure they have food like philly cheese steak or whatever, but the majority of their stuff is other cultures, watered down and made less interesting, in my opinion. Maybe that's to come with them being a country of immigrants, but I wouldn't say it's particularly something to be proud of.

Maybe you just can't see it because you grew up in the west. If you were born in rural China for example it would be really noticeable what the culture is like.

I think "culture" is just basically bs stereotypes that tourists have in their heads.

Like I don't think UK has one clear culture but every tourist I see thinks otherwise.

Geographically the USA is 37.97 times the size of UK, population wise the USA is 5 times the size of UK. Plus we're a lot better looking and smarter.

I lived in the US for one year and also traveled it for three months on another trip. Sure, they have some monsters but trust me when i say the British are uglier and certainly lazier academically

Though I do realise that not everyone in the US gets to go to uni like in Europe.

Unfortunately our current student payment scheme basically deals with invisible money (or, rather, it may as well do). Lots of people go to university to drink and be merry, and creative/technical courses are saturated in the name of profit (in a decade or two this will likely change, when it comes to bite universities on their backsides). Nowadays the British degree is, by and large, a substrate to experience and showing your determination. However because of our past, it's awarded a certain prestige in some places.

And yeah we are uglier

but apparently I'm an 8/10 on the cute scale so whoop de fuckin woo
