I am almost 18 and today i have been really shaky and decided to look into it. now 3 years ago i was diagnosed with essential tremors but I swore he said attention tremors so I thought it was only when I payed attention to it but people call me out on it sometimes and it really hurts but that isn't a big deal. what is a big deal is playing guitar and singing are really all I've got and I'm scared to tears that if this is what I read about essential tremors I'll degenerate to a point where I can't do anything anymore and I'm really afraid. what should I do? Have any of you dealt with this? could it be something else?

I've not dealt with it personally, but regardless of the course of your tremors, you are very young and can learn to do all kinds of things.

I know (based on reading some stuff a while back) that the tremors can worsen with low blood sugar and high caffeine intake. I'm sure there are meds that can help with tremors to some degree. The Pit probably isn't the best place to ask about these things.

Aeolian Harmony yeah i know the pit isn't tailored to this but this is the most populated place here so i figured i may get a good amount of feedback or something idk. I'm kind of freaking out i guess.

jakesmellspoo yeah the caffeine/anxiety combo is another thing that f's me up. I freak out about once a month for days o n ened that i am diabetic because of the symptoms here but every time i think i am they say im not. And my guitar isn't effected but its said to be degenerative and i'm afraid of someday reaching a point where i cant do what i love.

definitely look into seeing a therapist for the anxiety and try to cut back on the caffeine.

talking to a specialist can help you cope with the unfortunate prospects of a degenerative disease. both a therapist and a neurologist (im just guessing as to a specialist for tremors. whatever actually applies to what you're dealing with)

learn about it too. understanding what you have can help a lot, too. my father has a form of degenerative muscular neuropathy and he struggled for years to come to terms with it. better understanding of his disease put him in a way better emotional and mental state.

Dude essential tremors are there on everyone, some of us got dealt a crappy hand and have more noticeable ones from a young age but chill, because they do not worsen with age (unless we develop something degenerative, which does worsen, so constant check ups are nice).

I noticed mine when I was 16 and also freaked out, thought I was getting parkinson or some other grim neurological condition, went to the doctor and was told the same thing: they are essential because, well, we all tremble to an extent while doing nothing, my doctor even showed me his by holding a piece of paper between his thumb and index finger - caffeine, nicotine or any kind of stimulants do worsen them (so maybe cut back on those if you do them) and well, if you're paying close attention to them you will definitely notice them and it'll make you a tad more concerned than you should be, but do not worry excessively, my dude. In my experience they do not really interfere with guitary endeavors, sure it can be annoying, but won't make you incapable of jammin'

I'd be happy to talk more if you so wish to do!
