lmao there was a thread about this a while ago

they said, if I recall, that the timing is out and it's just a linear clump of sections

EDIT: I like the ending but only because that main riff sounds slightly like a Sax Ruins song

for the most part it simply isn't the fun kind of aimless linear structured piece

The thing about fusion jazz is that each song is at times pretty good, and other parts of the song sound like SHREDS video.

I said 7/10 because while the main part is hot garbage, the part at 1:54 is quite interesting at least... and in time.
#13
The intro sounds like the music they play on Adventure Time when some daft shit is happening. I really dig nearly everything after though, the riff at around 2 minutes is grreat.

I'm going with 3

Edit: that outro was excellent

I honestly kinda dug a good amount of things about it. Especially the tones, for a live recording. It's pretty fuckin try-hard tho

Which one could assume from a band name like 'Progger' playing a song called 'Exquisite'

This is guilty of a lot of the thing prog tends to have difficulty with though. Undercooking the structure and overcooking the rhythms. Reminds me of a mix of shit-era King Crimson and 21st Century Schizoid Man (also by King Crimson) and a handful of more shit added

It also reminds me why I hate most jazz fusion

All the musicians are clearly very talented. Just cut the crap and become mighty mighty bosstones 2.0.
#18
Actually tbh I could also see those just being placeholder names that stuck lmao. Like, they might be self aware enough that they jokingly named their artsy prog band off of a pun of the game Frogger and Exquisite sounds like the kind of name that I would name a song if I had to save a file and had to think of a name really quickly

Or it could be douchey af. Either way

What other people are calling "out of time" I think was perfectly executed. The little hitch in the rhythm really adds to that slinky feel to the intro. The rest of the song didn't really grab me or hold my attention, except for certain sections, but it certainly isn't bad. Seems like it's the cool kid thing to shit talk prog and jazz fusion now, so I'm probably in the minority there. This in particular isn't the kind of thing that makes me want to download their music and listen to them all the time though. More of a listen to it once, go "that's pretty cool" and never think about it again.

The poll is backwards. With 10 being good and 1 being shit I'd give it a 7.5/10

Agree with whywefight about the song and band name.

I'm feeling no emotions so I'm giving it a 5

This is also my no.1 gripe with it, song's already got that feel about it, don't need to play out of time, all that does is make them seem like a bunch of 14 year olds in their first band, and we all know what is meant by that.

Also that trombone solo is fucking pathetic, badly timed and the notes aren't correctly pitched. Actually most of the trombone is played poorly, they need a better trombonist.

And the pitch shift

Other than that it's actually got some nice ideas, 6/10

The two guitarists do an A++ job though, the ending was actually really good. And that hard jazz rock riff they do, sounded awesome.

The parts where it's just trombone / sax / whatever driven jazz are fine, although there's much better jazz out there. The parts where it's just 21st Century Schizoid Man are pretty good but King Crimson is much better. The first part where it's trying to do some awful mix of prog and cheesy jazz fusion sounds actually pisses me off.

It's an orii song. I wouldn't mind listening to it at some café, as long as the radio DJ made it fade in at the very end of the first part.

4/10

Actually I should probably give them a penalty point or two just for the band name or title.

They kinda remind me of Iiro Rantala New Trio.

*Spidedit: I'm listening to their album on iTunes right now. This is some good chill stuff. I'm really digging it. Perfect for writing essays to.
