As I progress, I'm always trying to bump it up to the next level. Recently I came across a fairly recent video of The Buckinghams playing "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy" live (unfortunately not the greatest sight lines). It's a simple song (basically A-A7-D7 in the original, but here it's in G), but the two guitar players are really jazzing it up (especially the bald player). What exactly are they playing?

Thanks in advance!

Playing partial chords...sliding into the 7th chords...and a lot of hammer ons in between. (think jimi hendrix little wing, pearl jam yellow ledbetter) In this one they just play some accent notes and don't forget the percussive strumming and left hand muting to give it that funk/jazz feel.
Not really picking up anything jazzy, as such. Maybe you mean this?

e: -x- x - 1 - 0
b: -3- 5 - 1 - 1
g: -4- 5 - 2 - 0
d: -3- 5 - x - x
a: -x -x - x - x
e: -3- 3 - 3 - 3
