I have a Gretsch G9126, it's a small uke-sized classical guitar, and I recently broke a string on it. I'm wondering what gauge of strings I should buy for it, it's tuned A-A (like a standard guitar with a capo on the fifth fret) and I don't know if a string set for a normal classical guitar will work for the neck or if I need to buy a special lighter gauge string set. It has a 17" scale length.
Hard tension classical string should be fine for A standard on a 17"scale. - A 25.5"scale tuned to E standard has the A at approximately 19".
So you recommend something like these? http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/daddario-ej46-pro-arte-hard-tension-classical-guitar-strings Or should I look for harder tension?
Something like that should be OK, but it will be a case of try it and see. You'll know if they feel too slack.
