Hi!
I'm about to buy a new guitar,
I decided i want to buy a Les Paul, japanese copy of Gibson and here is my question:
Which brand is better/the best: Greco/Tokai/Burny/Orville
Lately i found some Greco LP Custom and another question is
What is the best model of these? Custom?
I heard these Custom Burny/Grecos are as good as Gibson LP Custom.
Thanks.

While I haven't heard anything of the other brands, I do know that Grecos have seemed to hold on to a good reputation.

My advice would be to be weary of reviews from people who have purchased those guitars, only because people seem to be partial towards what they have spent money on. Who knows, it could be every bit as good or even better, but I'd have to hear and compare the two first.
Try adding more delay.

^ yeah i haven't tried enough to know. and it may well depend on the individual guitar as well (probably will).

you could try the tokai registry forum, a lot of people there who know their stuff. there are probably some other MIJ forums as well.
I'm an idiot and I accidentally clicked the "Remove all subscriptions" button. If it seems like I'm ignoring you, I'm not, I'm just no longer subscribed to the thread. If you quote me or do the @user thing at me, hopefully it'll notify me through my notifications and I'll get back to you.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

You want to try and find one of their models from before.. Shiat, let me think. 86, i think - because they were sued then, and that kinda ruined it for'em. I'm lucky, i have an early 80ies Burny Les Paul custom, and it's amazing. So much so, that in fact a guitar-nerd i know, wanted to trade me a modern Les Paul Custom for it. So yea, they're really good. I know most about the Burny's, but i think the timeline is pretty much the same.

Now, you want to go on some specialist websites about it, and check out how to identify them, before you buy anything. People slowly caught on more and more to the quality of these guitars, so the price has gone up alot, and many people will lie, say it's a lawsuit model, when it's not. I don't remember all the specifics, but on Burny's especially, you can identify them very well on the shape of the truss-rod cover.

Try this out. It's alot of reading, but really, read through it, it will help you alot. Also at the bottom, there's a section about identification.

MIJ Tokai's are awesome! Don't know about the lower end (Korea or China?) never tried a Greco, so no opinion on those. I tried 3 Edwards Lp's, but they didn't quite sound like a LP to me. Fgn guitars are also super, check them out ;-) I have 2 of these, a standard and a custom. Both great guitars.

+1 on the Tokai front. I've had an SG for years now and has been my main gigging/band guitar for 14 years now. Also got a LP model too which I've had for about 11 years. Bought many other guitars in the past, which have been and gone (including a shockingly made Gibson SG), but the Tokai's have always stayed in the collection, for me that speaks volumes. Just make sure you go for a MIJ model and none of the cheap Korean or Chinese models. Greco make some great guitars if you can get an old one, but if you put it side by side to a Tokai of the same era, then Tokai would win for me again. Both very nice guitars though. Never played any of the others. Keep us updated and let us know what you go for!

Personally, I've played some Greco Les-Paul copies - I don't know what model they were specifically - and I found them to be amazingly good to play. I couldn't recommend them enough!
