I am taking out a pcb board and installing a 50s wiring kit into my LP studio. I am hoping to avoid rewiring the switch and jack. I cut the ends. I determined that for the switch, regular black is hot, red is bridge, white is neck, green is ground. There is also an extra black, larger wire coming out to the cavity which is not visible at the switch; I am assuming this is also a ground. I am planning to attach green to the jack and this big black to the back of a pot.

On to the jack. It has a green and a black (vintage push-back) wire. I'm not sure which is hot and which is ground. I don't want to assume coloring is the same as the switch-and actually the vintage wiring for the black makes me suspect it is the ground.

Is there an easy way with my wire tester to determine which is which? I guess I could take the jack out but I don't want to mess up the wiring.

Thank you

Thanks- I guess I will need to take out the jack, but it shouldn't be a big deal

i would replace the jack and switch too while you are at it.

its not much more work, and then you will know that everything is good, and hang onto the switch and jack though if you do.

FWIW i have had two LP switches die on my (physically not electrically) but i have heard from people that i am hard on my switches though, but i don't beat the damn thing. then you will have an extra and everything is fresh.
