So I'm in the market for a new guitar and I was wondering if anyone could help track down a style of guitar. I'm looking for a strat-style guitar with standard s/s/s configuration, however on Fender Strats and a lot of copies, the electronics sit in a really awkward place for me. Im constantly hitting the pickup switch and volume knob that sits right under the strings. Can anyone identify any strat looking guitars with different positioned electronics?

The best one I have found is the Nick Johnston Traditional by Schecter, but its a USA custom and out of my price range.

If anyone knows of any others I'd love to hear em!

What IS your price range?

Are you open to SSS guitars that aren't even Strat shaped?

where are you in the world (country, not address!)?

fretkings have a layout pretty much like that schecter but might be difficult to come by outside of the UK. And they might not make an SSS model any more in the cheaper ranges.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

The only SSS I saw in the Black Label line was £799! And I don't think its control locations were appreciably different from a Fender's. There was a Corona P90/SS for £499, but again, the control layout was the same.

Most Stratclones are similar in that regard- near as I can tell, control placement differences of mere MM are the norm. Hell- even many of the non-Stratclone SSS guitars I know have that volume knob close to the pickups.

For example:

Could you replace the pickguard on a fender and get one with a different layout? I am not sure how they are laid out as far as the routing goes for the specific models though. it may be worth looking into

yeah. i was thinking more of the older blue labels (some might still be available) but the vol knob might still be too close. I was only going by the pic of the schecter he posted, its volume knob position looked roughly similar to the fretking's.

that would probably be the handiest thing (assuming the routing lines up ok, as you said)

Warmoth can do a Strat pickguard with a repositioned volume knob, or with just two knobs so you could have master volume and tone further from the strings.
