Hey, got a bit of a problem. I was playing my Peavey 6505+ 112 amp through a 2x12. An hour or so into my session, I heard a loud pop noise come from the amp's direction. Was a bit worried but I though it could have just been an isolated incident, or even maybe something else in the room causing the noise.

After another 5 or 10 minutes I heard another of the same loud pop noise coming from what seemed to be the amp chassis, accompanied by an instant slight drop in volume (bare in mind I was only playing with the volume on 1 to begin with). I instantly turned the amp off and turned the switch off at the wall. I don't really want to play it again in case something REALLY goes wrong and sets fire, fully breaks etc.

Could anyone explain or have a think why it could be doing this please?

Thanks
Carl

Was the impedance matched for the cab?

Yes they're matched. Been playing through the 2x12 for a few months now

Thanks for the reply guys. I'll have a go at changing the tubes. Probably due a change anyway considering they haven't been changed at all since I've got this amp. It's done well bless it haha

Good

I agree with the tubes going bad. Just eliminating all possibilities.
