Since the current brand of software running these forums tosses up suggested topics, we're seeing a lot of threads that are *years* old reappearing.
Next thing you know, someone is responding to the old thread and getting a reprimand from a moderator for resurrecting a zombie thread. And THEN it will be closed.

While I understand that it's valuable to have the old threads around for reference, is there a way to simply globally close all of those past a certain date? That would leave them available, but immune to attempts at revival.

No, for better or for worse we do not have that capability.
But we little know until tried how much of the uncontrollable there is in us, urging across glaciers and torrents, and up dangerous heights, let the judgment forbid as it may.
