The definition of soup is, and I quote "a liquid dish, typically made by boiling meat, fish, or vegetables, etc., in stock or water." Technically cereal is a liquid dish. The definition says typically, not always meaning a soup could contain components other than meant or vegetables. Cereal is a subcategory of soup, therefore it's a soup. And for those of you saying soup requires broth, the definition of broth is "liquid medium containing proteins and other nutrients for the culture of bacteria" I think milk is definitely a liquid containing proteins.

Who boils their cereal?

I think that's the core difference between the two

It depends on whether you count cold, entirely un-cooked "soup" as soup*

*uncooked after combining the ingredients, bearing in mind that many tinned soups are pre-cooked

My personal favorite being:

Nigga who cares Why the hell is this even a debate? Who the hell cares. Eat my nuts lol the only reason im even on this shitty website is because my teacher has me here on some essay type shit. Would you eat cereal out of someones ass or soup is a better question

But also I kind of like this argument

It's still cereal if it's dry The debate at hand argues that cereal is a soup because it has solid chunks floating in a liquid mass (forgive the imagery). However, cereal is in fact still cereal if the liquid--the milk--were to be removed, therefore rendering cereal not reliant on the liquid, not liquid-based, and therefore not soup.

If you have any semblance of dignity, you should delete this thread so we don't have to commit mass suicide from pure redundancy overload.

No, cereal is grain.

Grain soup is already a thing and it looks or tastes nothing like milk and cereal.

Cereal is it's own thing.

Eating cereal out of ass.
That's so 90s.
Something you'd hear on shock jock radio.

20 bucks says Howard Stern did that exact same thing on his show at some point in the 90s

Cereal won't warm you on a cold winter's day. Therefore it isn't real soup. And neither is cold soup.
I have nothing important to say

"a liquid dish, typically made by boiling meat, fish, or vegetables, etc., in stock or water."
The underlined bit seems important.

Compare it to, say:
An animal is "a living being, typically with legs, wings or fins"
Now, of course a snake is still an animal even without legs, wings or fins, but just because the added bit doesn't apply in certain cases, doesn't mean a tree is also an animal.

"Technically cereal is a liquid dish."
Technically it is not. Cereal is also cereal without the milk. It's as much a soup as a piece of chicken.

A soup does not have to be served hot to be considered a soup.

Oatmeal is more like a soup
But even then you can still eat it cold or throw it in a blender shake etc
