I will start with saying I am a guitar player, and have played very little bass.

I am looking to pick up a bass for some general futzing and some very light recording. Generally i can see its single coils vs humbuckers...

Are there any preferences, or thoughts?

The single-coil vs. humbuckers debate isn't as big a deal in bass as it is in guitars. Bass single-coil pickups can have tons of low end; as much or more than many bass humbuckers. Of the two basses mentioned; I prefer the Kingfisher. I just like it more.

FatalGear41 knows the ways of the obscure. I hear it's just not with Gibsons. Beware, Halloween approaches...

It's not really single coils vs. humbuckers -- both are probably used equally.
