Hey guys,

I have a really really cheap Chinese Squier dreadnought, I bought it for just over 100 quid (Model no: SA-105CE).
I originally saw this guitar as just something to mess around with while I'm at uni, but I'm in a country band now and we're having quite some success. I'm starting to see this guitar more as a workhorse than a toy and if we're gonna be playing a lot of shows I might as well invest in my axe.
So the thing is, it does have active pickups, which I don't like, but it also has a built-in tuner and preamp, both of which work well for my liking.
Would there be a way for me to switch out the p/u for a passive one without having to get rid of the tuner and preamp?

Sorry if this is sort of a rookie question or whatever, but yeah, just wondering.

I think most acoustic electrics come with a on-board preamp unit.. i just checked the spec on https://www.thomann.de/gb/fender_squier_sa105ce_bk.htm - it has Fishman Isys-T pickup system (which should be a nice pre-amp).. What amp are you using on your acoustic electric? if your using an electric guitar amp, you will not be able to get the full range on tone.. use an acoustic guitar amp.. Ibanez Troubadour is very nice.. i have the 15watt version T15.. ok for small venue but not powerful enough.. i suggest getting Troubadour T30 30-watts - https://reverb.com/item/3485870-ibanez-troubadour-t30-30w-acoustic-combo-amp-black - it's very good overall value for money... if you want to spend more money, you can get a Fishman Loudbox mini 60-watts acoustic guitar amp - https://reverb.com/marketplace?query=loudbox+mini.. I also own a Peavey eCoustic 208 30-watt acoustic amp.. (don't use the built in effects, terrible design cause awful hum).. i use TC Electronic Corona chorus and Digitech Polara reverb pedal in front of amp and I am able to get very nice chorus and reverb effects.. if i had a choice i'd buy the Ibanez Troubadour T30.
I have Washburn guitars 'Maverick Series' and bass 'Bantam Series' and a few pedals and amps, but man I wish to have more patience and drive practicing my playing, if it's equal to the modding itch, then I'm golden.
