What's wrong with contemporary rap and hip-hop?

Because, as a whole, it doesn't hold a candle to the hip-hop of yester-year.

That said, there are still a few gems, like this:

I don't know if I agree with that man, it seems like there's the opposite of whatever a recency bias is whenever anyone talks about nearly any kind of music. There's even good mumble rap coming out:

Yeah to each their own of course, just one man's opinion.

I think for me strangely, it's the sample/beat that I tend to focus on. So even if a hip-hop song has an interesting sample, I'm more likely to be forgiving with the lyrics. Whereas even the most profound set of lyrics will unlikely be enough to get me to listen to something more than once if the beat is uninspired.

80s/90s hip-hop samples tend to be a little more influenced by motown/soul, which is why I think I have a natural preference for it.

The South has dominated both the east and west coast for years now anyway.

Also this. ATL and H-town got that real shit. Shout out to chi-town for holding it down though.

New J. Cole album dropped today.

it's so decent it hurts

I don't have very high hopes for the new ab-soul either but I'm sure its solid

honestly 90s hip hop doesn't do much for me, tupac and biggie are boring and wu-tang is fun but nothing that great and nas' first album was great but not really totally my thing, de la soul whatever, outkast is cool but again that 90s sound is kinda grating sometimes
