Heya,

I was wondering if p90's are any good for downtuned stoner rock?

I play tuned to c standard and have been looking at a new guitar and came across a Reverend Sensi jr with a single p90.

Its simple and looks great but havent used p90's ever before.

Thoughts?

Cheers.

IMHO, P90s would be great for downtuned stoner rock
My God, it's full of stars!

Tony Iommi created downtuned metal with P90s, so stoner rock should be juuuust fine.

I used to have a Sensei Jr. - they're seriously awesome guitars. I do the indie/punk stuff, but I imagine it could do most genres rather well.

Reverend makes pretty good axes, I hear.

FWIW, I love their P90s.  They're good enough, IMHO, that I replaced the P90s in my Fret-King Esprit 3 with Bareknuckle Stockholms, just so it would sound as good...

Thie Esprit is tuned CGDAEG, and sounds great.

I've got a 7 string P90 tuned to open A and it sounds great. You won't be gong lower than A will you?

The answer is yes.

Dude,I have the dirt cheap Epiphone Les Paul special with P90s, and that thing rocks.... So yes, P90s have that nasty growl you want

cheers guys. I only plan to tune as low as c standard. I think we all agree that p90s are good. Whats would be the benefit of a humbucker over a p90 then? Or vice versa.

Although there are some high-output P90s, there's a whole bunch more HBs like that.

HBs are also going to be less noisy.

EDIT: OTOH, P90s can have a richness/sweetness of tone that some HBs can't match easily.

Because of their obvious & subtle differences, one of my new favorite pickup configurations (of the past 4 years) is a bridge HB partnered with a neck P90. Its like a beefier version of the HSS design.

P90s can do most things and do it well.
