I wanna make a shitty YouTube show. I have a shitty camera and could get a microphone, what is some free, basic video editing software I can download?

Something relatively easy to use that I can just make a simple, stupid show from my living room?

Help me, Pitbabies!

you can use youtube to edit videos.
not sure what kinda fancy shit you're going for, but it worked ok when I had to splice some clips together for class.

started my YouTube channel with windows movie maker.

You can probably find a free version of the older Camtasia software, it's better than WMM, doesn't take too long to learn the controls.

probably bigger (more functionality) than you need, but I'd get davinci resolve if I were you

Damn I'd like to be as hip as these yuppies on the website for this software
My God, it's full of stars!

lol, I'm not going to be apologetic about their marketing strategy (everything aimed at "creatives" is pretty insufferable IMO) but its legit software.

its almost the equivalent of getting photoshop for free.

i use sony movie studio which is only $20. It's fine for the presets I need, and has some effects I want. It takes some times to learn the tricks of how to make the effects look nice but right now I'm pretty comfortable with it and it's been working pretty well. I don't recommend movie maker because of the downgrade in quality when you export the video.

Comparable to Premiere?

I haven't used Premiere for a while, but I think the cutting and editing tools are pretty similar.

the standout feature in davinci resolve though are the colour grading tools, extremely powerful, industry grade sort of stuff.

I mean, I'm already into that if we're talking about a viewing perspective...but no, not in terms of my own endeavors.  Just YouTube style content, silly faux-reviews and such...

Sheeit, color grading is probably beyond my needs, but I'll check out resolve.  Thanks, Precious Diamond David (and everyone else).

possibly, its got a nice 4-step UI though so you can literally skip it altogether.

the main reason for suggesting it is that if you can see yourself growing into more serious stuff you don't have to switch software and learn a slightly different editing interface later

snipelfritz  I tried Windows Movie Maker and Youtube Video Editor when starting my YouTube channel two years ago. These editors both have their ups and downs and I am sure that I would still be using them if my friend (who is also a YouTube blogger) haven’t suggested me Bolide editor - http://movie-creator.com/  It is fast, simple to use, and has many beautiful visual effects - all that I need to make nice videos

I used WMM for a while, I learned it pretty well but it kept popping up quirks that I had to work around and I got tired of it. I would say save your time and not bother with it.

I now use Hitfilm 4 Express. It's WMM on steroids, for free. Picture in Picture, a timeline that makes sense, non-obtrusive effects, etc. I want to give them my money because it is such solid software. The only thing is it can be a bit slow depending upon how big the files you are editing, but nothing I felt hindered my workflow (again, FREE).

I did not think the learning curve on it was too bad, although I was used to WMM so maybe it would be a bit weird for someone completely new. But I got through the software and learned how to do what I needed it to do within a session or two, without tutorials.

EDIT: If you have a smart phone (particularly a recent iPhone) you have a really solid camera as it is. A few caveats though: Likely you can only send 5 minutes of video at a time, so you will have to split the video in two and send them separately and bring them together later. I send the files to my email. Hitfilm also does not read .mov files (or at least the free version does not) so you will have to run it into a converter first, I use the Macroplant Adapter software. It is kind slow but again, free.

my sister is an editor (does a lot of freelance) and thinks davinci is wank for anything other than colour grading and constantly bitches at all the joke creative hipster types who hire her and force her to have to work soley in it for compatibility with everyone else on the project.

I know she sometimes will do a bunch of stuff in premiere pro and grade in davinci if she cba dealing with some supposed issues with davinci working with windows 10.
O.K.

I use AVS Video Editor but it's buggy as all hell.
You are now using UG Black.
You are now using UG Classic.

Listening to: New York Voices, as well as the new Vulfpeck record (fuck it's so good)

Maybe you can find a shtick, like "crappy cooking", "food/drink reviews after brushing teeth", "painting with drunk dude", "how-to guide that gradually turns into drunken rambling", etc.

Just use Youtube's. Unless you're getting into more intensive stuff, their editor will serve you well if all you're doing is splicing stuff together.

the cutting is not as slick as something like Premier Pro or Vegas, but the biggest problem would just be having to jump from one to the other. Free is free though, and it allows you to do everything with one piece of software.
