Because I was bored yesterday, I cleaned up an old laptop and installed Linux on it. I actually use my PC for everything I normally need/want to do, as it's much faster, but that means I basically have a spare laptop now that is as of yet completely untainted.

What are some fun things I can do with my spare laptop?

It was Mint btw...
On account of I've never actually done anything with Linux before and my dad said to use Mint.

Probably 9 years at this point

I'm constantly surprised by how well it keeps working, considering it's an Acer that was only about 500 Euros when new.

It might be a magic acer, I bought one at around the same time for 500 euros too and it's been dead for 4 years

It probably is tbh. I don't hear many positive stories about the brand in general.

I used to have an acer aspire 3750z and it was the best laptop i ever had.

Perhaps the souls of all the dead Acers came together to imbue this one with mystical power.

Try and use it for daily tasks like internet and office work. You could install open office as that runs on linux. Thunderbird also runs on linux so that's your emails sorted.

On the come up we were listening to Grateful Dead and the music started passing through my bowel and out my arsehole as this violet stream of light. I shat music. It was beautiful.

^ I've just realised if you say Simple Plan's 2011 effort "Get Your Heart On!" really fast in a Southern American accent, it sounds gross. . .like sexual gross!

Put Kali on it instead and try hacking your own wireless and other computers.

But really all you're going to do with Linux is the same thing you do with Windows or Mac.

For the record your dad gave you good info as far as Mint, at least with Mint you don't have to put up with Unity.

Buy a whole bunch of other old computers, and do something similar, but build a cluster. Then wonder what to do with all that parallel processing capacity.

I use an old PC loaded with Unbutu and a 4TB drive as a music and movie server.

Install retroarch and emulate some old games or use it as a squid server.

Or open terminal and sudo apt-get lern2hax

It's a golden age for Linux, lots of cheap hardware and some decent distros out there.
