i am going to build one and i have been looking at some of the circuits from: http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.com/

i would like about a 20 db boost with or without coloration. i was thinking of just building a zvex SHO and sticking it in the guitar or even a tillman with a gain switch. http://www.till.com/articles/GuitarPreamp/

this will be on veroboard, which i am relatively comfortable with.

9V only, i would use a pullout pot to engage.

this will be going into a Gibson LP.

whatcha' y'all think?

kind of. I had one in a DKMGT and didn't like it much.

I want smooth gain and at this point I want to build it. but I want natural breakup. maybe a 'soft' breakup if that makes sense. the Tillman one seems nice for that.

I also want it to be quiet. the afterburner is noisy as hell from what I can remember.

I haven't seen them available for a while, but I have a Chandler Tone-X in a couple of my guitar. Sweepable mids boost of about 16 dB, like a parked wah. I have mine on push-pulls with a 9V battery box in the back of the guitar.
