I´m currently building a guitar body out of mahogany and need some help. I want to glue a quilted maple veneer to the body. Would I have to grainfill the wood first? Also do I need to apply any finish before glueing on the maple veneer?

Thanks in advance
Maple veneers are not as straightforward to apply and finish as they seem. You'll need a vacuum bag big enough to fit the guitar body in, to draw the veneer to the contours of the body as the glue dries, being sure to wet the veneer in areas where it needs to conform to the body's contours so that it doesn't just snap when you go to vacuum it. You don't want to finish or grainfill the veneer before applying it to the body. That's just going to make finishing the rest of the body a nightmare.
