What is the difference between the Fender USA Malmsteen Strat, and the Japanese market Fender Malmsteen Strat?

Question in the title.

For example, these are the Japanese models:

USA model:

(My local shop had one at the full RRP which went quickly - who even has that sort of money? I envy them.)

Only difference I can spot is that the Japanese model appears to have had the bullet truss rod before the USA models got it.

Well for starters the Japanese version is made of basswood. U.S. version is the period correct Adler. Pickupsl may be different as well.

Thank you! I read that actually and wondered if Yngwie's was alder but wasn't sure, and assumed his was basswood. Yeah, the current USA has the sig DiMarzio YJM, the Japanese ones do have some kind of DiMarzio but not sig as far as I can tell - who cares about that though? xD I'm really tempted to try and pick up a Japanese one then. Alder is obviously a lot more trebly than basswood which I think is more midrangey off the top of my head, would you suppose the alder is really that much better? I have one alder guitar which is really resonant, that's all I can say about the wood. Both dent pretty easily, I think? Basswood is cheaper but sounds fine, basically?

Actually the dimarzios are older sig pups. I have both alder and basswood strats and not really any difference treble wise. The pick ups are kinda key to Yngwies sound but either are fine. The one guitar listed was missing parts and was far from a deal. The US one and the other were about the same price. I'd go with the US one myself.

monwobobbo Interesting, I didn't know they were making sig pups that far back. You got it right to be honest, I'll wait for a deal on a USA one. There's not really enough difference in price to much around with importing from Japan. Thanks again.
