This is about the Grateful Dead.

IMO I don't think you see enough of them on UG. Tell everything you know and everything you want to know.

Hey there man. I would post everything I know, but, it would take up to much time. After all, I am UG's Official Deadhead. I hope this doesn't get closed though (because of a different thread)
BTW, they don't get mentioned enough, thats true.

Unfortunatly though, I have to report you. Read the FAQ

To save closing it, i've edited it.

Just a note, dont report a thread after someone else has reported it, it just clogs up mods PM boxes.

They do not get their fair share of recognition around here, but they are starting to get theirs.

^^All right, Lazy. I'd like to say that I beleive the Grateful Dead are one of, if not, the, greatest band ever (IMO). I think they deserve much more respect here. If there are any questions, feel free to ask me, Messer, or hippyskier. Peace out.

Oh yeah, if anyone is wondering what CD to listen to, try The Very Best of the Grateful Dead. Covers quite a bit of their stuff, but also try some of their live shows.

I'm guessing that second sentence doesn't also apply to us mods

But yeah, please check no-one else has reported a thread. And threads like this aren't vital to be reported to be honest, we'll get round to seeing them eventually, it's not like someone's posted porn I had 47 reports in the last 36 hours or so lol... that was just crazy.

You know to get a good discussion going here, does anybody know anything about Jerry's Tiger guitar. Man I would love to have that guitar, but it cost like $900,000.

Bought for $957, 500. In the 2004 Guniess Record Book, it was listed as the most valueable guitar. Sold after Jerry's death, by his guitar maker.

EDIT: Good site for tiger. >>>http://dozin.com/jers/guitars/tiger/info.html

I love the maple body. Very beautiful guitar.

The Wolf guitar he played is very nice, too.

EDIT: Here's a good site for all of his guitar's. http://www.nii.net/~obie1/deadcd/garcia_guitars.htm

DYK? Jerry's missing his right middle finger, he lost it in a woodchopping accident when he was alot younger.

I also like messer and deadhead31313133131313131313 alot now, since they seem to like the dead as much as I do.

Europe '72. Both discs are ****ing excellent, and live recordings are always so much better because you know that the band has a lot of talent. I don't like it when people can play a solo in the studio but all of the sudden can't when they get on stage...I wonder why. Enough of my rant...

This is probably my favorite album of theirs that I have and I would definately reccomend it to anyone.

Yeah, im not too big on the Dead but i listen to them on occasion. The footage from the Winterland DVD is awesome and same with the Festival Express (If you haven't seen it, go now, it shows tons of bands and is at blockbuster). My fav. song I guess would be Scarlet Begonias. I own all their Cd's and sh*tloads of bootlegs b/c my dad used to travel to like every show in his heyday so I have grown up around their music. I love the sustain of Jerry's guitar playing and his solo's are awesome. A lot of people diss him because they say he's not that talented but i say he's got tons of talent, and last time I checked, not too many people playing Dead solos. Both guitarists Garcia and Weir are really good, and same with lesh and the two percussionists. Very Unique sound and cool tones,

any live album from the dead is awsome. Its great because you can pick up a live Dead album for about $15 at local music shops. A lot of the live albums have multiple discs, too, so you're buying a real bargain for great music.

By the way, if any of you guys live in the Cleveland area, check out the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They have about 6 of Jerry's custom guitars there. They are all awsome.

Yes that is very, very true. The Winterland DVD is kick a$$, I love it. Jerry and Weir, IMO, are very underrated guitar players they are very talented. Like IbanezRGsk8er said, you don't see very many people playing their solos. To think Jerry is only playing with three fingers and a knob of one. Just think of what he could do with all four of them.

^^^well, I said on his right (picking) hand. His fretting hand had all the necessary digits, his picking hand was without the middle finger.

Also, get View From the Vault I from Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh from '91. The set list is unbelievable and they played so damned good that night. Set 1 is real good, opening with a damned fine version of Touch of Grey, but my first set highlight is the Row Jimmy-probably the best version of Row Jimmy ever. The second set is where its at though:

Samson & Delilah > Eyes of the World > Estimated Prophet > Terrapin Station > Jam > Drums > Space > I need a Miracle > Wang Dang Doodle > Black Peter > Throwing Stones > Turn On Your Lovelight - Knockin' On Heaven's Door
bonus tracks from 7/6/91: Standing On the Moon > He's Gone > KY Jam

Ugh, I still can't get over how great it is.

^^Are you sure it's on his picking hand, I thought it was on his fretting hand.(If it's not that makes me look retarded for as big of a Deadhead as I am!)

Yes View From the Vault I is very good. Touch of Grey when they open with is just amzing. I listen to that song about 4 or 5 times before I listen to any others.

Yeah all, sorry I havn't been on in a while. If you're looking for a good live show, try the Filmore West Show on 7.2.71. Great show. I actually had the privledge of editing that show (if you've heard it, it's probably not my version, though). Once again, ask questions to me or messer.

OK, heres a question for you all. What dead stuff did you like more: the early psychadelic stuff, or their folksy/roots rock stuff (like American Beauty)?

Messer, I'm 100% sure that its his picking hand. If you look closely on live videos, you'll see.

Also, deadhead313313, I'm genuinely torn between their psychadelic stuff and their folkish stuff hehe. It all depends on my mood. But, they also have a wide selection of straight-up rock n' roll sorta stuff, and that's always awsome to listen to too.

Everyone should get this live album: Steppin' Out: Englad '72, or Rockin' the Rhein: Rhenhalle, Dusseldorf, West Germany '72. England is 4 discs and Germany is 3 discs. You could call them expanded versions of Europe '72, but I just call them kickass lol.
